TF2 Player Count
How many people are playing Team Fortress 2 right now, the peak of the last 24 hours, the highest count we have recorded and how the numbers move over days and months.
How many people play TF2?
Team Fortress 2, Valve's free to play team shooter from 2007, is still played every day by a large community. The number at the top of this page is how many are playing right now, as Steam reports it.
Every hour, on the hour, we ask Steam for the current count and keep it. That record is what the charts are drawn from, so they show how the player count rises and falls over a day, a week and months, not only the number at this moment.
How to read the charts
On the 24 hour view, the line rises and falls once a day as players in different parts of the world come online and go to bed. The 7 day view shows that wave repeating.
On the 1 month and 3 month views each point is one day: the line is that day's average, and the shaded band runs from the day's lowest count to its highest. The dashed line is the average over the whole range.
By day of the week averages the last 90 days for each weekday, so you can see which days draw the most players. By month gives each month's peak and average and how the average changed from the month before.
Questions
Is TF2 still popular?
Yes. It still has a large daily player base, and the 24 hour peak above shows how many people were playing at the busiest moment of the last day.
How often does the TF2 player count update?
We record Steam's count once an hour, on the hour. While you have the page open it picks up each new number by itself.
What does highest recorded mean?
It is the highest count in our own record, which starts on the day we began recording. Steam's all time peak for TF2 may be higher, from before that date.
Who counts as a player?
Every account Steam sees in TF2 at that moment: in a match, in the menus or idle. Steam counts accounts, not people, so idle accounts and bots running on Steam accounts are counted too.
Why does the count sometimes dip for a short while?
Steam's weekly maintenance, usually on a Tuesday, and occasional Steam outages can drop the count for a short while. It recovers as soon as Steam is back.
